Problem
VinPower / VinLink: Assigning Trim to new Trim field in DeskLot.

Solution
In DeskLot version 2.5 and above, a new field has been added to the vehicle records... "Trim". In previous versions of DeskLot, any trim related fields were appended to the end of the Model field along with a space.

To reassign the vin decoding trim results to the new Trim field:


For customers using the VINPOWER VIN decoder.

The easiest way is to download the latest VinConfig.mdb from http://www.DeskLot.com/downloads/VinConfig.mdb.

If you would prefer to manually make the change, go to "File" and then "Settings". Click the "VinPower Decoding" tab and follow the steps below:

Select "Model" from the list of "Available VIN Decoding Fields".
Select "txtModel" from the dropdown list "Match to This Field in the Vehicle Database".
Make sure the "Prefix This Text to the Beginning of the Data" field is blank (double-check as it could have a blank space in it).
Make sure the "Append This Text to the End of the Data" field is blank (double-check as it could have a blank space in it).
Make sure the "Replace This" field is blank (double-check as it could have a blank space in it).
Make sure the "With This" field is blank (double-check as it could have a blank space in it).
Make sure the "Append a Carriage Return to the End of the Data" checkbox is unchecked.
Make sure the "Append The Data to any Existing Information Already Present for the Vehicle Field" checkbox is unchecked.
Click "Save Current Record" (if enabled).

Select "Series" from the list of "Available VIN Decoding Fields".
Select "txtTrim" from the dropdown list "Match to This Field in the Vehicle Database".
Enter a blank space for the "Prefix This Text to the Beginning of the Data" field is blank (double-check as it could have a blank space in it already).
Make sure the "Append This Text to the End of the Data" field is blank (double-check as it could have a blank space in it).
Make sure the "Replace This" field is blank (double-check as it could have a blank space in it).
Make sure the "With This" field is blank (double-check as it could have a blank space in it).
Make sure the "Append a Carriage Return to the End of the Data" checkbox is unchecked.
Make sure the "Append The Data to any Existing Information Already Present for the Vehicle Field" checkbox IS checked.
Click "Save Current Record" (if enabled).

Select "Trim Level" from the list of "Available VIN Decoding Fields".
Select "txtTrim" from the dropdown list "Match to This Field in the Vehicle Database".
Enter a blank space for the "Prefix This Text to the Beginning of the Data" field is blank (double-check as it could have a blank space in it already).
Make sure the "Append This Text to the End of the Data" field is blank (double-check as it could have a blank space in it).
Make sure the "Replace This" field is blank (double-check as it could have a blank space in it).
Make sure the "With This" field is blank (double-check as it could have a blank space in it).
Make sure the "Append a Carriage Return to the End of the Data" checkbox is unchecked.
Make sure the "Append The Data to any Existing Information Already Present for the Vehicle Field" checkbox IS checked.
Click "Save Current Record" (if enabled).

Browse through the complete list of "Available VIN Decoding Fields" and make sure no other "Available VIN Decoding Fields" are mapped to the "txtModel" or "txtTrim" "Match to This Field in the Vehicle Database" dropdown list other than those listed above.

Click OK.


For customers using the VINLINK VIN decoder.

The easiest way is to download the latest VinConfig.mdb from http://www.DeskLot.com/downloads/VinLink.mdb. NOTE: If you do this, previously downloaded VinLink reports will be lost!

If you would prefer to manually make the change, go to "File" and then "Settings". Click the "VINLink Decoding" tab. Click the "Field Assignments" sub tab.

Select "BASIC" from the "Field Mapping for Report Type" downdown list.

Select "VP.Trim Level" from the list of "Available Vin Decoding Fields".
Select "txtTrim" from the dropdown list "Match to This Field in the Vehicle Database".
Make sure the "Prefix This Text to the Beginning of the Data" field is blank (double-check as it could have a blank space in it).
Make sure the "Append This Text to the End of the Data" field is blank (double-check as it could have a blank space in it).
Make sure the "Replace This" field is blank (double-check as it could have a blank space in it).
Make sure the "With This" field is blank (double-check as it could have a blank space in it).
Make sure the "Append a Carriage Return to the End of the Data" checkbox is unchecked.
Make sure the "Append The Data to any Existing Information Already Present for the Vehicle Field" checkbox is unchecked.
Click "Save Current Record" (if enabled).

Select "VP.Model" from the list of "Available Vin Decoding Fields".
Select "txtModel" from the dropdown list "Match to This Field in the Vehicle Database".

Browse through the complete list of "Available VIN Decoding Fields" and make sure no other "Available VIN Decoding Fields" are mapped to the "txtModel" or "txtTrim" "Match to This Field in the Vehicle Database" dropdown list other than those listed above.

Select "COMMON_EQUIPMENT" from the "Field Mapping for Report Type" downdown list.

Repeat the same steps above as you did for the BASIC "Report Type".

Select "OPTION" from the "Field Mapping for Report Type" downdown list.

Select "Local_Trim_Level" from the list of "Available Vin Decoding Fields".
Select "txtTrim" from the dropdown list "Match to This Field in the Vehicle Database".
Make sure the "Prefix This Text to the Beginning of the Data" field is blank (double-check as it could have a blank space in it).
Enter a blank space in the "Append This Text to the End of the Data" field is blank (double-check as it could already have a blank space in it).
Make sure the "Replace This" field is blank (double-check as it could have a blank space in it).
Make sure the "With This" field is blank (double-check as it could have a blank space in it).
Make sure the "Append The Data to any Existing Information Already Present for the Vehicle Field" checkbox IS checked.
Make sure the "Append a Carriage Return to the End of the Data" checkbox is unchecked.

Select "Special or limited edition" from the list of "Available Vin Decoding Fields".
Select "txtTrim" from the dropdown list "Match to This Field in the Vehicle Database".

Make sure the "Prefix This Text to the Beginning of the Data" field is blank (double-check as it could have a blank space in it).
Make sure the "Append This Text to the End of the Data" field is blank (double-check as it could have a blank space in it).
Make sure the "Replace This" field is blank (double-check as it could have a blank space in it).
Make sure the "With This" field is blank (double-check as it could have a blank space in it).
Make sure the "Append The Data to any Existing Information Already Present for the Vehicle Field" checkbox is unchecked.
Make sure the "Append a Carriage Return to the End of the Data" checkbox is unchecked.
Click "Save Current Record" (if enabled).

Browse through the complete list of "Available VIN Decoding Fields" and make sure no other "Available VIN Decoding Fields" are mapped to the "txtModel" or "txtTrim" "Match to This Field in the Vehicle Database" dropdown list other than those listed above.

Click OK.
