Problem
You continue to get the "One of more database files needed by the Chrome VIN Exploder do not exist" message even after using "Check for Updates".

Solution
This article addresses the issue of you continueing to get the message "One of more database files needed by the Chrome VIN Exploder do not exist. If this is your first time using the exploder, this is normal as the database files are not distributed in the default DeskLot installation due to their large file sizes. Please use the "Check for Updates" menu option." even after using "Check for Updates".

In rare cases, some computers are having a hard time successfully downloading the massive Chrome database files needed to use the VIN Exploder Using Chrome Data.

We have been unable to duplicate this rare problem.

If you are experiencing this problem after trying to use "Check for Updates" to download the Chrome database files, we first suggest:

1) Check how much hard disk space you have free on your computer. You need to have a good 3-4GB free.

2) Make sure you are using a reliable hi-speed Internet connection. Mobile Internet connect cards are many times not reliable enough to keep data integrity for this long although they do do well with short burst downloads like when you're surfing the web or downloading email.

If all of this checks out, you will need to manually do an inventory of what files are missing and manually download any needed files. Sorry!

In DeskLot, click the "File" menu. Then "Settings".
In the "System Settings" screen click the "Networking" tab.
Click the "Explore" button to open the folder in which the system data is stored.

The Chrome database files are to be stored in the "Chrome Exploder" folder within this folder.

Windows VISTA example: C:\ProgramData\WalkTheLot DeskLot\Chrome Exploder\

The following Microsoft Access Application databases should exist in this folder.

"C.mdb" (User Data Database)
"CI.mdb" (Chrome Images)
"CI-CAEn.mdb"
"CI-CAFr.mdb"
"CVM.mdb" (Chrome VIN Match)
"CNVD.mdb" (Chrome New Vehicle Data)
"CNVD-CAEn.mdb"
"CNVD-CaFr.mdb"

If they do not, you may manually download them one at a time at the following web addresses and save them into this folder.

IMPORTANT NOTE: The files you will be downloading are compressed ZIP files. They will need to be extracted/unzipped into the "Chrome Exploder" folder. You can use a program such as WinZip to do this or most Windows versions will allow you to look inside a ZIP file and you may drag and drop the contents of the file into the "Chrome Exploder" folder. Ignore the .VER files.

You should also have an "Images" folder. Example: "C:\ProgramData\WalkTheLot DeskLot\Chrome Exploder\Images\"

Within this folder (images) you should have "USEn", "CAEn", and "CaFr" folders. Example: "C:\ProgramData\WalkTheLot DeskLot\Chrome Exploder\Images\USEn\", "C:\ProgramData\WalkTheLot DeskLot\Chrome Exploder\Images\CAEn\" and "C:\ProgramData\WalkTheLot DeskLot\Chrome Exploder\Images\CAFr\".

If these folders do not exist, create them.

If the "USEn", "CAEn" or "CAFr" folders do not have .JPG files in them, you will need to download "Images.zip", "Images-CAEn.zip" and "Images-CAFr.zip" and unzip the contents into the corresponding folders.
